Devonchurchland says…
A large church in what was a major village but now quiet and peaceful.
It has a wonderfully tall tower, rebuilt somewhat after a lightning strike in the 19th century.
Inside, the pretty stonework on the 14th century traces is the first the first thing to catch the eye, with their very fine use of space as well.
The rood screen has been much dismantled, but what remains is very good indeed, with all the wainscoting paintings surviving and some quality carving on the aisle bits. The parclose is also very good.
There are two fine fonts, one Victorian and one Norman, both worth a good long look.
The North aisle medieval roof bosses are fantastic, a superb collection.
The Victorian stained glass is another enchantment.
All in all, a once major church that still retains a lot of the medieval and well worth time spent.
